Waymond Wesley "Bootsie" "Mountain Man" Cockrell, 69, of Newberry, died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on November 2, 1951, in Saluda, he was a son of the late George W. Cockrell and Blanche Bobb Cromer. He was retired from Steele Dynamic, was a member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church and the Rifleman's Association.
Mr. Cockrell is survived by his wife, Margaret Gillespie Cockrell; a son, Donald Cockrell of Irmo; daughters, Tracy (Chris) Mitchell of Belton and Tammy Cockrell Wilson of Newberry; step-sons, Larry (Michelle) Weeks, Van Weeks and Clint Weeks all of Greenwood; a step-daughter, Carmen (Larry) O'Briant of McCormick; a sister, Wendy (Richard) Jacobs of Newberry; brothers, Eugene “Bub” Cockrell and Scott Cockrell both of Newberry; grandchildren, Mason Cockrell, Waymond Cockrell, Donald Cockrell, Kimberly Wilson, Savanna Rose, Wesley Moore, Johnny Moore, Bella Slaton and Brittany Weeks and a great-granddaughter, Autumn Rose. He was predeceased by a sister, Dolly Dailey and a brother, Johnny Cockrell.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery at 3074 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity, SC. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Nobles, Michael Harmon, Jay Weisner, Jr., Jay Weisner III, Cody Jacobs and Van Weeks.
Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Earl Bobb.
