William Boyd (Bill) Clamp Jr. of Newberry, widower of Faye M. Clamp passed away March 18, 2024 in Greenwood. Born April 4, 1935 in Newberry to W. B.(Boyd) Clamp Sr. and Ellen S. Clamp.
He is a member of Lewis Methodist Church in Newberry.
At age 13 taught himself to play guitar, he is left handed and had to learn to play it upside down until left handed guitars were made for left handed players. He continued to play the guitar his entire life. Played for many nursing homes for entertainment, Church services and once had a band in the 1970’s called Touch of Country and was well connected in Nashville.
He was a seasoned aircraft mechanic and a private pilot. He cherished the many friendships he made in the General Aviation Community over the last 62 years.
He spent many of his early years in the Mill Supply Business and kept the sawmills in Newberry running. He later was a Chip Mill Manager for Westvaco from which he retired in 1997. He spent 38 years repairing aircraft alongside his son.
He is survived by two sons, Billy Clamp (Jan) of Greenwood, Todd Clamp (Donna) of Irmo; Six grandchildren and Seven great grandchildren; Two brothers, Bruce Clamp of Newberry, Mike Clamp (Terry) of Lexington and one sister Marion Tesenair (Robert) of Newberry.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by two sisters, Mabry Evelyn Clamp and Mary Ellen Layton and a grandson, Todd Clamp II.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 am in the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12 Noon in the funeral chapel with services to be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials to Lewis Methodist Church, 1105 First St. Newberry, SC 29108.
