William Wise “Bill” Floyd, 81, of Newberry, died February 22, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Born on August 20, 1942 in Winnsboro, he was a son of the late John Spearman Floyd, Jr. and Lucy Derrick Floyd. He was a 1960 graduate of Newberry High School. He attended Clemson University and later earned a Bachelors degree from Newberry College in 1965. He earned his Master's degree from the University of South Carolina and his Education Specialist degree from Winthrop College.
Mr. Floyd taught in Boiling Springs from 1965- 1968, he taught and coached at Gallman from 1970- 1973. He was Principal at Gallman Middle School and Newberry Jr. High School from 1973- 1988. Mr Floyd served as Principal of Newberry High School from 1988-1992 and Prosperity-Rikard Elementary School from 1992-1996. After retirement, Mr. Floyd continued to work in the Newberry County School District for a total of 37 years of teaching.
Mr. Floyd served on the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board for 20 years. He was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church where he was a member of the church choir and served as a past chairman of the church council and was a former Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Ann Watts Floyd; a son, Troy Floyd; a sister, Betsy (Wayne) Black; a grandson, Dustin (Diana) Floyd; a brother-in-law, Leland (Patsy) Epting, Jr.; nieces, Beverly (Gregg) Summer, Faye Woodward, Katie (Gregg) Hare, Anne Serio, and Charlotte (Steven) Gains; nephews, Michael Black, Richard Black, and Frank (Brandi) Floyd; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews including an extra special great-nephew, Brandon Woodward.
He was predeceased by a son, Travis Floyd, brothers, Dr. Jack Floyd and Richard Floyd, and sister-in-law, Janice Epting.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Monday, February 26, 2024 at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Stoudemire. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Active pall bearers will be Michael Black, Richard Black, Alex Summer, Adam Summer, Judd Baird, Tyler Mills, and Craig Dominick.
Honorary pall bearers will be Sam Baird, Johnny Pitts, Rudy Tarver, Jerry Nolting, Leland Epting, B.L. Brown, David Jenkins, his Monday night card buddies, his football crew, and his Wednesday afternoon class of 1960 buddies.
