William "Bill" Walker

William Donald “Bill” Walker, 87, of Newberry, widower of Alice Geddings Walker, died Monday, March 3, 2025 at his home. Born on July 18, 1937 in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi, he was the son of the late William Everett and Rachel Wilkerson Walker. 

Mr. Walker retired as a Master Sargent, after 27 years of service from the United States Air Force. After retirement, Bill worked at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant for a number of years. He was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of both the York and Scottish Rites. Bill loved square dancing, fishing, and playing golf. He took great pride in taking care of his yard and always kept his swimming pool in immaculate condition for his grandchildren to enjoy. Bill was good at so many things, and there weren't many things that he couldn't fix or do. 

He is survived by daughters, Bonnie (Mike) Muecke of Merrill, IA, Shelly (Scott) Barto of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Wendy Jackson of Sumter, Melissa (Stuart) King of Georgia, and Katrina (Keith) Minick of Newberry; sons, William Patrick (Penny) Walker of Salix, IA, Kenny (Susan) Jackson of Sumter, and Ronnie Jackson of Sumter; a sister, Lady Pearl Guidroz of Arnauldville, LA ; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his loving companion, Claudine Sullivan of Irmo. 

He was predeceased by a daughter, Amanda Jackson. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Clifford Hughes. Burial with military honors will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour before the service. 

Memorials may be made to Three Oaks Hospice, 101 West Park Boulevard, Suite B, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Gideons International. 

Active pall bearers will be William Kyle Walker, Ryan Patrick Walker, Chad Everett Walker, Nathan Muecke, Kenny Jackson, Keith Minick, Chansel Minick, and Travis Grimsley. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Davis, Dr. Spencer Lovelace, Teresa Halfacre, Susan Dove, Denise Pitts, Virginia Gibson, Lauren Folk, Kerry Sligh, and Three Oaks Hospice for their love and care.
