William Henry “Bill” Suber, Sr., 88, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his residence on his 64 th wedding anniversary.

Born on April 12, 1921 in Peak, he was a son of the late Henry Lionel and Marie Fulmer Suber. He was a graduate of Newberry College, retired from the automobile industry and was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church of West Columbia. He was a World War II Army/Air Corps veteran. He was the pilot of a B17 Flying Fortress, 8 th Air Force 379 th Bomb Group. Captain Suber flew 29 missions over Germany and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with three bronze oak leaf clusters award, the Air Medal, and the Eastern Theater Service Medal. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Wade Hampton Camp # 273.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores Fredricksen Suber; sons, Bill (June) Suber, Jr. of Columbia, Ron (Aleita) Suber of West Columbia and Dennis (Susan) Suber of Peak; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church by the Rev. Charles Wilson. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery in Peak.

The family would like to thank the staff Heartland Hospice including Alexandria, Brenda, Priscilla, Tom and Don and also special friend and caregiver, Pat Burgess for their loving care.
