Col. Winfield D. Buzby, Jr. US Army Ret.

Colonel Winfield Dickenson “Dick” Buzby, Jr., U.S. Army Ret., 67, of Prosperity, went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2012.

Born on July 25, 1944 in Bridgeton, NJ, he was the son of Winfield Dickenson Buzby, Sr., and Marvie Hepner Buzby. Colonel Buzby served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He received a Master of Theology degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University. He served on the faculty at both the U.S. Army Chaplain School and the U.S. Army War College, and on the staff of the Office of the Chief of Chaplains at the Pentagon.

In retirement Chaplain Buzby pursued his passions: spending time with family and friends, playing the banjo, preaching God’s Word, and travel. He was blessed with a full life of service to God and country, and a community of family and friends around the world.

Chaplain Buzby is survived by his parents; his devoted wife of 44 years, Patricia Peregoy Buzby; daughters, Julie Dawn Buzby Snyder (Tim) of Beaufort, SC, and Keri Buzby Adams (Scott) of Birmingham, AL.; sisters, Barbara Ernst and Bev Moore; and 10 grandchildren whom he deeply loved: Abigail, Noah, Caleb, Daniel, Elisabeth, David, and Joseph Snyder; and Hannah, Micah, and Sarah Adams.

Chaplain Buzby was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, SC, where visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Dr. Tim Phillips. Interment with full military honors will occur at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
